چکیده

This paper examines methods of assessing the wear resistance of coated and uncoated materials. Test equipment for sliding wear, erosion, impact and dynamic wear tests is discussed. Processes for measuring wear rates are highlighted and a simple procedure for conducting wear tests to simulate industrial wear problems is given. The wear test selected and the wear conditions encountered in real applications should conform in order for specialists to make adequate judgement on the life of a particular component in service. © 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. Effect of Carbide Particle Size on the Microstructure, Mechanical properties, and Wear Behavior of HVOF-sprayed WC-17% Co Coatings

This study investigates the effect of carbide particle size on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and abrasive wear resistance of WC-17%Co HVOF-sprayed coatings. The characteristics of WC-1, WC-2, and WC-3 coatings with carbide sizes of 1 µm, 0.9 µm, and 0.5 µm, respectively, were also investigated. WC-1 coating experienced the maximum carbon loss of 42%, while WC-2 and WC-3 coatings un...

Investigating Tribological Characteristics of Ni-P and Double–Layered Ni-P/Ni-B Electroless Coatings Applied to the Carbon Mild Steel Ck45

In this research, tribological characteristics of Ni-P electroless coating and double-layered Ni-P/Ni-B electroless coating were studied. For this purpose, Ni-P electroless coating with 25 μm thickness was initially applied to the surface of steel Ck45 samples; then, a double-layered Ni-P/Ni-B electroless coating, including inner layer of Ni-P with 15 μm thickness and outer layer of Ni-B with 1...

Evaluation of Microstructure and Wear Behavior of Iron-based Hard - facing Coatings on the Mo40 Steel

Mo40 low-alloy steels are mostly used to produce industrial components such as crane wheels which are exposed to abrasive wear. However, during working conditions, their wear resistance is reduced after a while due to its low hardness. With increasing abrasive wear, the dimensions of components decrease and they need to be repaired for surface modification. In this regard, hard overlay coatings...

WEAR REESISTANCE OF NANOSTRUCTURED AND CONVENTIONAL YTTRIA-STABILIZED ZIRCONIA COATINGS

Partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ) has been proven to be an excellent candidate as a thermal barrier coating (TBe) for hot sections in, for instance, heat or internal combustion engines and gas turbine parts. The main functions of these coatings are reducing heat losses, reducing fuel consumption, increasing efficiency, and extending durability and life. One of the main problems involved is we...

Tribological Properties of B4C-Ni Cermet Coating Produced by HVOF Process on the Surface of 4130 Steel

In this research, B4C-Ni cermet coating was sprayed on the surface of 4130 steel from B4C and Ni feed-stockpowders using high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) method. In order to characterize the tribological behavior of thecoating, ball on disk wear tests were done at the ambient temperature and under the loads of 1, 3 and 5 N.Phase analysis of the coating after spraying was studied ...
